Since our last reunion we have lost several classmates. All of whom were special to us in many different ways. However, there was no one more inspiring than our friend, Irene. Her strength and determination were unmatched. She lifted us up and made us smile while she struggled through her own pain. She became a spokesperson for organ donations and was such a great mentor to new organ recipients through the Second Wind program. Irene was special, not because she was sick but because of the way in which she approched her sickness and made it a positive thing.. Many people now live because she taught others the importance of being a donor. She loved her family and her God. Our hearts were broken when she passed away, yet we knew her pain and suffering were gone. A visual tribute to her life can be found here: https://www.twifordfh.com/irene-overton/

Gilbert Levin Spitzer Jr. was born on June 12, 1959 to the late Gilbert Levin Spitzer and the last Barbara O'Neal. Gilbert departed this life on July 25, 2016.
Gilbert, who most everyone knew as 'Peanut", was born and spent most of his younger years in Elizabeth City, NC. He then moved to Grandy, where he later met and fell in love with his late wife, Minnie Spitzer.
Peanut lived a fun-loving life! Took each day as a blessng. Lord knows it wasn't easy for him, Everyday ther was always a new atory to tell and old pictures to show. Peanut had a wild soul, and loved telling jokes and jamming out to his favorite songs on his phone! Never afraid to ask for a helping hand. Just about every morning he would have a bible verse ready for Bonnie and await her comeback. He may have been a wild one, but that man knew The Bible! 7-11 was Peanut's home away from home. From sun up t sun down you could find him either sitting on the firewood or on his bike. Everyone used to call him 7-11"s mascot! L.O.L. Peanut had a friendy soul, spoke to any and everyone that would listen, never mattered where they were from or where they were going. Always had a kind word to say, and also some craziness mixed with it :-) Grandy nor 7-11 will ever be the same with our dear friend gone. Gilbert leaves behind a son, Gillie Brckhouse of Elizabeth City, 2 grandchildren, Donald Dorcus Sawyer of Elizabeth City. He also behind a host of nieces, nephews and cousin, and his Grandy family!!!!
